🌏 Big Moment for Sarawak! 🌟
From June 23–26, Sarawak will welcome two UNESCO-appointed experts for the final and most crucial assessment of our Sarawak Delta Aspiring Geopark – the last step before potentially becoming a UNESCO Global Geopark! 🙌
👨🔬 Meet the Evaluators:
French geologist Jean-Simon Pagès and Spanish geographer Antonio Garcia Jiménez – both globally recognized for their work in geopark management – will explore our iconic sites to see if we meet UNESCO’s world-class standards.
📍 Key sites they’ll visit:
✅ Schist Tuang Semeba & Paku Rock Maze (Bau)
✅ Wind Cave Nature Reserve
✅ Semenggoh Nature Reserve (Padawan)
✅ Borneo Cultures Museum & Sarawak Cultural Village (Santubong)
✅ Kampung Peros (model geopark village)
✅ SMK Paku (geopark school)
...and more!
This mission is more than just a visit — it’s a chance to show the world how Sarawak balances conservation, education, culture, and sustainable development across 3,112 sq km of ancient landscapes and vibrant communities. 🏞️
🪨 Did you know?
Some of the rocks here are over 250 million years old! Our geology connects us to the ancient histories of Southeast Asia, Europe, and beyond. 🌍
🙏 Huge thanks to all communities, agencies, and partners who’ve worked tirelessly for this milestone. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope to see Sarawak officially join the UNESCO Global Geopark family! 💚
