Get ready! Sarawak will be the proud host of International Day of Forests (IDF) 2025, happening at the Forest Research Centre (FRC) in Kuching! π
First introduced in 1971 as World Forestry Day, IDF is now a global call to action to protect our forests β the lungs of the Earth and lifelines for communities. π
Organised by Forest Department Sarawak (FDS), which has been at the forefront of forest conservation since 1973, this yearβs theme, βForests and Foods,β shines a spotlight on how forests support biodiversity, food security, and traditional livelihoods.
πΏ In Sarawak, forests are more than just timber. Theyβre medicine cabinets, food baskets, and cultural roots β especially for our rural and indigenous communities. This celebration honours their role in forest stewardship and sustainability.
πΈ In the lead-up to the big day, FDS has hosted a series of fun sports events β badminton, bowling, futsal, golf, even blowpipe contests β to build community spirit and awareness.
