The new Sri Maha Mariamman Temple at Jalan Rock is set to become one of Sarawak’s most iconic landmarks and a must-visit attraction! 🛕
Its stunning six-storey ‘Raja Gopuram’ (temple entrance tower) now stands tall at 18 meters and weighs a massive 600 tonnes, making it:
🌟 The tallest Raja Gopuram in Borneo
🌟 The second tallest in Malaysia (after the Arulmigu Karumariamman Temple in Penang)
Once completed, this monumental tower will feature over 100 deities, each beautifully crafted, adding even more grandeur to the temple.
🙏 In Hindu tradition, the ‘Raja Gopuram’ is more than just architecture – the taller it is, the greater the power, blessings, and spiritual significance it brings to the community.
The temple will also soon welcome sacred deities imported from India, with the main shrine dedicated to Goddess Sri Maha Mariamman. A special consecration ceremony, the Maha Kumbha Abhishekam, is expected to take place by September or October 2025.
🏗️ Construction began in 2020, with strong support from the Sarawak Government through UNIFOR, contributing RM2.3 million towards the RM3 million project.
📍 A new spiritual and cultural jewel of Kuching is rising – and it’s one you don’t want to miss!
