MBKS to Restore WWII Clock Tower & Launch Heritage War Trail
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) is bringing history back to life. ✨

Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng announced that the World War II Memorial Clock Tower at Padungan will be revived, restoring its true meaning as a place of remembrance for those who sacrificed during the war.

🕰 Once a solemn memorial, the clock tower had slowly faded into “just a clock.” Now, MBKS will restore its dignity and significance.

In addition, MBKS will introduce a Heritage War Trail, linking Batu Lintang, Padungan and Pending. Every step along this path will tell a story — of resilience, sacrifice, and Sarawak’s liberation from Japanese occupation 80 years ago.

Mayor Wee emphasized:
“MBKS is not just about collecting rubbish or fixing roads. We are also custodians of memory, builders of identity, and guardians of culture.”

This initiative will not only preserve Sarawak’s history but also enrich our city with living heritage, murals, and cultural spaces that inspire both locals and visitors. 🌏❤️

Among the distinguished guests at today’s unveiling of the World War II Sarawak Liberation Monument at Pending Point were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister for Tourism Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Deputy Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting, and representatives from Australia.
