In a beautiful gesture of mutual respect, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) is set to name a 600-meter street “Jalan Guro” — in reciprocity for Seoul’s Guro District naming a road “Kuching South-ro” back in 2022.
During his courtesy visit to Guro District Mayor Jang In-hong today, MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng expressed heartfelt gratitude for the warm hospitality and reaffirmed the strong ties between Kuching South and Guro — a partnership that began in 2013 and has flourished through youth exchanges, cultural collaborations, and people-to-people connections.
✨ Highlights of the partnership:
Youth & Cultural Exchange Programme (since 2015) – bringing performances to both Kuching Festival 🇲🇾 and Guro Festival 🇰🇷.
Business Council agreement (2019) – enhancing cooperation in networking, skills transfer & knowledge sharing.
Kuching South’s growing recognition: UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy (2021), UNICEF Child Friendly City candidacy, WHO Age-Friendly Cities network.
Mayor Jang welcomed the delegation warmly during the 2025 Guro G-Festival (themed “Harmony”), expressing hopes for deeper cultural and economic collaboration.
Both leaders concluded with confidence that this friendship will continue to inspire prosperity, harmony, and shared progress for the people of both cities. 🌸✨
