Miri Airport is set to be upgraded to international status πβallowing it to handle wide-body aircraft and ease passenger congestion.
π According to Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, the project is expected to kick off next year after approvals and tender, with construction taking around 3 years.
Why the rush?
π The airport was designed for 2 million passengers yearly, but by 2019 it had already reached 2.4 million!
Hereβs whatβs coming with the upgrade:
β¨ Expanded terminal (from 16,900 sqm β‘οΈ 29,000 sqm)
β¨ 9 aerobridges (up from 3)
β¨ New baggage system & more check-in counters
β¨ Larger waiting areas for comfort
β¨ Separate levels for arrivals & departures
β¨ Dedicated domestic & international facilities
β¨ A multi-storey car park with 2,000 lots + e-hailing zone π
This will truly transform Miri into a stronger gateway for both tourism & business! ππΌ
