Miri Airport is set to be upgraded to international status 🚀—allowing it to handle wide-body aircraft and ease passenger congestion.
📌 According to Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, the project is expected to kick off next year after approvals and tender, with construction taking around 3 years.
Why the rush?
👉 The airport was designed for 2 million passengers yearly, but by 2019 it had already reached 2.4 million!
Here’s what’s coming with the upgrade:
✨ Expanded terminal (from 16,900 sqm ➡️ 29,000 sqm)
✨ 9 aerobridges (up from 3)
✨ New baggage system & more check-in counters
✨ Larger waiting areas for comfort
✨ Separate levels for arrivals & departures
✨ Dedicated domestic & international facilities
✨ A multi-storey car park with 2,000 lots + e-hailing zone 🚖
This will truly transform Miri into a stronger gateway for both tourism & business! 🌍💼
