🌏 Sarawak Among Six Malaysian States Identified as Earthquake Risk Zones
⚠️ Sarawak has been listed among six states in Malaysia found to be at risk of earthquakes, according to Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii.📍 The other affected states are Pahang, Terengganu, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, and Sabah.
🧭 Studies by the Mineral and Geoscience Department, based on active fault mapping and the Malaysian Seismotectonic Map, revealed fault zones in these areas that could be vulnerable to seismic activity.
🗺️ The Malaysian Seismic Hazard Map — developed in collaboration with MetMalaysia, local universities, and technical agencies — is currently being updated to include the latest data on earthquake occurrences, geological materials, and soil findings.
🚨 Authorities are also enhancing early warning and disaster response systems through continuous monitoring of seismic activity.
🌊 Under the 13th Malaysia Plan, MetMalaysia will roll out Phase 2 of the Earthquake and Tsunami Service Enhancement Project to further strengthen national preparedness.
