Sarawak Makes History with Its First-Ever Road Tunnel Under SSLR Project
🚧 Sarawak’s First-Ever Road Tunnel is Coming! 🚦Sarawak is making history! 🌄
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof has announced that the state’s first-ever road tunnel will be built as part of the Sarawak–Sabah Link Road (SSLR) project — a game-changer for connectivity in Borneo.
💬 “This will be the first tunnel in Sarawak — an impressive engineering feat considering the hilly terrain,” Fadillah said during a press conference held in conjunction with Malaysia MADANI Budget 2026.
📍 The tunnel will be located in the Limbang area, northern Sarawak, designed to shorten travel distances from up to 20km down to just around 7km. By going through the hills instead of over them, it not only saves time but also helps protect the environment. 🌿
🇨🇳 The construction will incorporate advanced Chinese tunnelling technology, marking a major step forward in Sarawak’s infrastructure capabilities.
💰 The overall SSLR project — costing about RM6 billion — spans 335km across Miri, Limbang, Lawas, and Ba Kelalan, connecting communities and boosting economic growth across northern Sarawak.
“This tunnel is a major milestone and a symbol of what Sarawak is now capable of building,” said Fadillah. 🚀
