Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng has invited Toyota City to explore exciting collaborations in gastronomy and cultural promotion, in line with Kuching’s recognition as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. 🍜✨
The invitation was made during a courtesy visit to Toyota City Mayor Toshihiko Ota at the 2025 International Mayors Forum in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
Accompanied by senior MBKS officials, Dato Wee reaffirmed the warm friendship between Kuching and Toyota City — a bond that began in 2014, when the Asuke Performing Team wowed Kuching Festival visitors with their traditional Japanese taiko drum performances. 🥁🎌
Both mayors discussed future cooperation in:
✅ Sustainable city development
✅ Youth and student exchange programmes
✅ Cultural and gastronomic initiatives
✅ Projects aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Dato Wee also shared Kuching’s key initiatives — from Age-Friendly and Child-Friendly City programmes to environmental sustainability and smart infrastructure projects — reflecting Kuching’s commitment to a people-centred, sustainable future. 🌿🏙️
This visit marks another important step in strengthening Kuching’s global connections — paving the way for more collaboration in culture, food, sustainability, and community development. 💫
