The New Year Countdown 2026 at Kuching Waterfront is expected to attract more than 20,000 spectators, with numbers potentially reaching 30,000 if the weather permits.
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, shared that the strong turnout reflects the waterfrontβs enduring popularity as Sarawakβs main New Yearβs Eve celebration hub.
βIf the weather is good, we expect between 20,000 and 30,000 people. Thatβs why the celebration area will stretch from the wharf all the way to the Grand Margherita Hotel, complete with vendors to create a lively atmosphere,β he said.

This yearβs celebration aims to be one of the grandest yet, marking Sarawakβs achievements in 2025 and welcoming 2026 with renewed energy and excitement.
The programme will be divided into three segments:
πΆ Pre-show (8:00 PM β 10:00 PM):
Featuring local bands, ethnic and creative dance troupes, and Sarawakian singers including Gabriel Mawat, M. Chin Chin, May Razada, Gary Garris, Razali Sangat and Jolie Jengan.
β Main Performance (10:00 PM β Midnight):
Performances by top Malaysian artists KRU, Dayang Nurfaizah, Chad Ali and Naqib, carefully selected to appeal to audiences of all ages.
π€ Post-show Concert (After Midnight):
Indonesian superstar Judika, supported by KRU, will keep the celebration going after the countdown and fireworks.
π The event will also be graced by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
π Special Highlight:
The launch of the Gateway to Sarawak Drone Relay, recently recognised by the Guinness World Records for the longest GPS journey, showcasing Sarawak to the world.
π And of course β no countdown is complete without fireworks! A spectacular fireworks display will light up the sky at midnight.
πΊ To ensure everyone enjoys the show, additional LED screens will be installed at both the waterfront and Padang Merdeka.
π Traffic & Parking Advisory:
The public is encouraged to carpool and use designated parking areas to reduce congestion. Free parking will also be available at selected locations. Those coming from Petra Jaya are advised to park early and cross the S-Bridge before 8:00 PM, as it will be closed afterward for safety reasons.
