Miri is now a pioneer in Malaysia, implementing the country’s first Bus Signal Priority (BSP) system — a smart traffic management solution designed to reduce waiting times at intersections, smooth traffic flow, and improve the punctuality of bus services.
The milestone was celebrated with the launch of BSP operations for the Smart Bus Service in Miri, highlighting the Sarawak government’s commitment to transforming public transport through technology-driven solutions. 🌟
According to Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, the initiative aligns with the State government’s focus on:
✅ Strengthening urban mobility
✅ Enhancing public service efficiency
✅ Supporting sustainable development
He said at the launch on Tuesday, Dec 16:
"Traffic congestion is a global challenge that affects productivity and the quality of life. Public transport must become the backbone of an efficient and inclusive urban mobility system."
The BSP system uses intelligent traffic signal technology to give priority to buses at intersections, helping commuters enjoy smoother journeys, reduced delays, and more reliable schedules.
This launch follows other smart transport efforts in Miri, including:
🚌 The introduction of 14 smart buses
🏢 The opening of Miri Sentral Bus Terminal
📱 The launch of the Sarawak Smart Transport app, making it easier for the public to access transport information
Miri is leading the way in smart, sustainable public transport — making commuting faster, easier, and more convenient for everyone! 🚦💨
