Deep in the heart of Loagan Bunut National Park, the Berawan community has a unique way of fishing — a traditional technique called Selambau.
This ingenious method was invented by the Berawan to adapt to Loagan Bunut’s changing water levels. A large scoop net is mounted on a floating platform and skillfully operated using long poles and ropes. As the water recedes, fishermen easily scoop up fish migrating along with it — a sustainable practice that has been passed down for generations. 🌿
Among the lake’s many fish species, one truly shines: the Biawan fish! Locals transform this prized catch into delicious keropok (crackers), loved for its mild, fish-and-prawn flavour. 🐟✨
A perfect blend of culture, tradition, and nature’s bounty — Selambau fishing is more than just a catch, it’s a living heritage.
