Delivering World-Class Education Across Sarawak
Sarawak continues to strengthen its education landscape, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), with the planned opening of two new Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School (YSISS) campuses in Bintulu and Miri by 2027.
These new institutions are part of a broader state initiative to expand access to high-quality, internationally-aligned education for students throughout Sarawak. Currently, two YSISS campuses are operational in Petra Jaya and Kuching, with a third set to open in Sibu this year. The Bintulu and Miri campuses will follow in 2027.
These schools aim to equip students with strong STEM capabilities, aligning with the state’s vision of nurturing a tech-savvy, innovative generation.
Fostering a Thriving Innovation Ecosystem
The expansion of YSISS supports Sarawak’s ongoing efforts to build a robust ecosystem for science, technology, and innovation.
Key initiatives include:
The recently launched Sarawak Centre for Artificial Intelligence (AI)
The Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre, currently under construction near a local university
The Sarawak Science Centre, scheduled for completion early next year
Together, these projects aim to create a dynamic environment that supports both education and cutting-edge research.
National Science Week 2025: Igniting Curiosity
National Science Week (MSN) 2025 will feature engaging and interactive activities designed to spark public interest in science and innovation, especially among students and young learners.
The expansion of YSISS into Bintulu and Miri highlights Sarawak’s unwavering commitment to future-ready education and reinforces its position as a national leader in technology and innovation.
Driving Progress Through Strategic Collaboration
Strategic partnerships between government agencies and the private sector are vital to the long-term success of these education and innovation efforts. These collaborations are expected to foster greater synergy in advancing science, technology, and innovation—not only in Sarawak, but across Malaysia.
