Kuching is glowing with national pride as several of its iconic landmarks are illuminated in the colours of the Jalur Gemilang π²πΎ β marking an exciting milestone for Malaysia!
This special lighting display celebrates Malaysiaβs official receipt of the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) Federation flag during the closing ceremony of the Thailand SEA Games 2025, and officially kicks off the countdown to SEA Games 2027, which Malaysia will proudly host.
Led by the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), the initiative lights up major landmarks including:
π DBKU City Hall at Bukit Siol
π Satok Bridge
π Darul Hana Bridge
β² Musical Fountain
β¦and several other iconic spots across the city.
The dazzling display will last for a week, extending into the New Year 2026, symbolising continuous public support and growing excitement for the upcoming Games.
Kuching North Mayor Dato Hilmy Othman said the initiative reflects Kuchingβs commitment and readiness as the host city for the SEA Games 2027 opening ceremony.
βThis effort enhances national visibility of the Games, ignites the sporting spirit among the people, and fosters pride in Sarawakβs role as a co-host of this prestigious event,β he said.
He added that the initiative also aims to strengthen unity and sportsmanship, reinforcing Kuchingβs image as a progressive and competitive city ready to shine on the regional stage.
In a show of nationwide solidarity, other major cities including Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, and Penang have also lit up their iconic buildings in Malaysiaβs national colours π²πΎβ¨
