✈️ New Bebuling Airport Set to Boost Betong by 2026 🌱📈

The RM248 million New Bebuling Airport project in Betong Division is on track for completion by February 2026, marking a major milestone in Sarawak’s rural infrastructure development 🏗️✨

Designed as a Short Take-Off and Landing Port (STOLport) 🛫, the airport will serve both passenger travel and cargo operations 📦👥, improving connectivity for communities in Spaoh and surrounding areas 🤝🌍

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas stated that the airport will play a vital role in strengthening the rural economic chain 💼🌾 by enabling local produce and goods to reach wider markets 🛒➡️🌐. During a recent site visit 👷‍♂️👀, he emphasised that the project goes beyond connectivity — it is about creating new opportunities for agro-based industries and tourism 🌱🏞️

“The airport will play two main roles — passenger and cargo transport — allowing products from Spaoh to reach markets beyond the area, thus strengthening the rural economic chain,” he said 🗣️

The development includes a main terminal building 🏢, extensive earthworks 🚧, pavement works, and supporting public infrastructure 🛠️. Once operational, the airport will complement initiatives such as the Collection, Packaging and Processing Centre (CPPC) 📦🏭 and the Agropark 🌿, boosting agricultural productivity and value-added processing 📊

Officials also noted that the airport could serve as a key gateway for ecotourism 🌄✈️ in Betong Division, making it easier for visitors to explore the region’s natural attractions 🏞️📸 and helping diversify the local economy beyond agriculture 🔄

In addition to the airport, Uggah was briefed on several ongoing infrastructure projects in Betong, including:
🔹 Sungai Krian Bridge (Coastal Package D4) 🌉
🔹 Highway to Roban Intersection (Coastal Package A5) 🛣️
🔹 Batang Saribas Bridge No. 2 (Coastal Package A4) 🌉
🔹 Sungai Paku Bridge 🌉
🔹 Rural road upgrades along Jambu Krampak–Rantau Layan and Ijok–Batu Pesok–Rantau Layan 🚜🛤️

The visit was attended by Betong MP Dato’ Dr Richard Rapu, Sarawak JKR Director Datu Dr Cassidy Morris, and senior officers from relevant agencies 👥🤝, reflecting the government’s commitment to timely delivery and community-focused development ⏱️💪
