Sarawak has expressed support for extending the Trans-Borneo Railway to Indonesia’s Kalimantan region to strengthen economic ties, trade, and regional connectivity across Borneo.
The initiative was highlighted by Indonesia’s Consul General in Kuching, Dr Abdullah Zulkifli, following a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. The proposed expansion is seen as a strategic move to enhance connectivity between Sarawak and Kalimantan and promote Borneo as a regional economic hub.
Improving cross-border connectivity is also viewed as timely, with Kuching set to host the SEA Games opening ceremony in 2027, which is expected to draw more visitors from Indonesia.
