The Sarawak government’s free smart school bus pilot at SJK Chung Hua No. 6 is already showing promising results! Officials report reduced traffic along Jalan Stapok and a drop in carbon emissions in the area. 🌿
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg shared that the pilot, also involving SK Sungai Maong Hilir, features buses equipped with tracking and communication systems, allowing parents to monitor their children in real time and feel confident about their safety. 📱👦👧
“Early data shows fewer private vehicles on the road during school hours, meaning less pollution and a step towards a low-carbon urban environment,” he said.
The state fully funds the buses and operational costs, and due to the positive impact, the programme will expand to other urban schools, working closely with Parent-Teacher Associations (PIBG) and local communities.
This pilot also complements Yayasan Sarawak’s transport programmes, which are being upgraded with tracking and scheduling technology for even better efficiency and safety.
💡 A smarter, safer, and greener way to get to school in Sarawak!
