Miri is set to take centre stage as the host of the Sarawak International Boxing Championship 2026, scheduled to take place at the Miri Indoor Stadium this May. The prestigious tournament is expected to welcome boxers from up to 13 countries, making it a major highlight on the regional boxing calendar.

According to Sarawak Amateur Boxing Association (SABA) president Dato Rahman Lariwoo, athletes from the Philippines, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Indonesia, as well as several Malaysian states, have already confirmed their participation. The exact dates of the championship will be announced soon.

β€œThis championship will play a crucial role in preparing Sarawak’s boxers for the Selangor Malaysia Games (SUKMA) this August, offering them invaluable exposure against international-level competition,” he said.

Beyond sports development, the event is also expected to boost tourism in Miri, with foreign teams and visitors contributing to the local economy. Dato Rahman also called on corporate organisations and the private sector, especially those based in Miri, to support SABA in ensuring the championship’s success.

The tournament is organised by SABA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MYSED) and the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP).
