The Sarawak Government has refined its free electric bus service to the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre to better serve tourists and visitors, by aligning bus schedules with the orangutan feeding times — so no one misses the highlight of the visit.
Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah explained that earlier observations showed lower passenger numbers on certain trips, mainly because some visitors arrived after the feeding sessions had already ended.
🕙 Orangutan feeding times:
• Around 10.00am
• Between 3.00pm – 4.00pm
“With the new adjustments, visitors can now arrive on time and fully enjoy the experience,” he said during a trial ride of the service from Electra House.
🚍 What’s new?
• Bus schedules refined to match feeding times
• Routes still pass selected hotels before heading to Semenggoh
• Improved timing to maximise usage and visitor satisfaction
The free electric bus service, provided by the Sarawak Government through the ministry, has been running for five years, with four fully electric buses currently in operation. It is open to both tourists and the general public.
🌱 Abdul Karim highlighted that the initiative reflects Sarawak’s strong commitment to environmentally friendly transportation and sustainable tourism.
“We are satisfied with the facilities and service provided by the bus operator. This initiative offers a convenient, eco-friendly and completely free option for visitors and locals alike,” he said.
While designed primarily to support tourism, the service also remains accessible to local residents, including those from Kuching, Sibu and Miri, who wish to travel to destinations such as Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, Damai, and Sarawak Cultural Village — free of charge.
📌 Routes operate at designated times, with schedules and route information available on the official website.
🌏 From wildlife conservation to greener urban transport, this initiative shows how Sarawak continues to move forward — sustainably and thoughtfully.
