Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen is turning heads with a daring proposal ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026).
He’s calling for a live Netflix broadcast of legendary free solo climber Alex Honnold scaling an iconic Malaysian landmark—think Merdeka 118 or the Petronas Twin Towers! 🧗♂️✨
“This isn’t just advertising—it’s a premium global media event that could capture the imagination of millions worldwide, showcasing Malaysia as bold, modern, and visionary,” Dr Yii said.
He points to the Taipei 101 stunt as proof: a USD 500,000 event that made global headlines and created a social media frenzy, generating millions in tourism publicity value.
Malaysia is ready: Netflix is on Unifi TV, Telekom Malaysia has partnered with Tourism Malaysia before, and the Film in Malaysia Incentive (FIMI) can support production.
Dr Yii believes this could rebrand Malaysia on a global scale with remarkable cost efficiency, urging MOTAC to commission a feasibility study and make this stunt a centerpiece of VM2026.
🌏 Could Malaysia become the next epic global thrill?
