Did you know? Kuching has just been recognised by the World Stroke Organisation (WSO) as an โAngels Regionโ โ only the second city in Malaysia to receive this global recognition.
Not many places in the world have achieved this status, yet Kuching did. From here in Borneo, weโre now listed among around 100 regions worldwide known for having strong, well-coordinated stroke care systems.
This recognition reflects the hard work behind the scenes โ from public awareness and emergency response, all the way to hospital treatment.
๐ฅโจ Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Borneo Medical Centre Kuching were both acknowledged as top centres for stroke care, earning Gold Status under the WSO Angels Awards.
On top of that, SGHโs emergency medical service network achieved Diamond Status, showing how well hospitals and emergency teams work together.
But itโs not just about hospitals.
๐ง๐ Kuching has also done amazingly well in community stroke awareness, especially through the FAST Heroes programme, which reached over 1,500 children across six schools โ way beyond the original target. Early awareness really does save lives.
With Kuching joining Taiping and Penang, Malaysia now has three Angels Regions, making us one of only two countries in the Asia-Pacific region to reach this milestone.
๐ Huge respect to the doctors, nurses and healthcare workers at SGH and partner hospitals. Their dedication has put Sarawak on the world map, and this recognition is just the beginning.
A proud day for Kuching, a proud moment for Sarawak. ๐
