Hey friends in Kuching, have you ever noticed this building? It’s the Dapu Hakka Association Building!
The Dapu people trace their roots back to Chayang County, Fujian Province, China. They were among the earliest Chinese immigrants in Kuching, arriving in the early 20th century, and were involved in trades like tinsmithing, traditional medicine, and noodle making. 🍜🔨💊
The community organized itself around 1916 through the “Pu Yi Commune,” which was later renamed the Dapu Association in the 1950s. Over the years, this association has served as a social and cultural hub, helping Dapu people connect, share traditions, and support one another. 🤝✨
Next time you walk by, take a moment to appreciate not just the architecture, but also the rich history and stories this building holds! 📸
