Isau Manis Season Is Here: Sarawak’s Green Mata Kucing Returns 🍃
As the rich, buttery dabai and the unmistakable aroma of durian slowly fade from Sarawak’s markets, another seasonal favourite is stepping into the spotlight — the vibrant green mata kucing, known locally as isau manis 🍃✨

At the bustling Sibu Central Market, vendors have begun piling the fruit high on their stalls, marking the start of yet another familiar fruit season for shoppers.

Just weeks ago, the fruit appeared only in small quantities. Today, it’s becoming a common sight in markets across Sarawak’s coastal towns, drawing steady demand from market-goers looking for something fresh as other fruit seasons taper off.

Scientifically known as Euphoria malaiense, this local variety of mata kucing is easily recognised by its pebbled green skin. While it looks different from the more commonly known longan varieties across Southeast Asia, the taste remains just as delightful — sweet, juicy, and refreshing 😋 A brown-skinned variety, locally called kakus manis, is also available during the season.

💰 Price guide:
• Larger fruits: around RM16 per kg
• Smaller fruits: around RM8 per kg

As isau manis makes its return to markets around Sarawak, don’t miss the chance to visit your local market and savour this uniquely local favourite. Seasonal fruits don’t last forever — enjoy them while they’re here! 🍇🌿
