A new access road is being proposed from Jalan Stephen Yong junction to RPR Landeh, aimed at tackling the heavy traffic along Jalan Penrissen, one of Kuchingโs busiest main routes to the hinterland.
The planned road, still in preliminary stages, is expected to provide an alternative route for motorists travelling between Jalan Landeh, Batu Kawa, and Kota Sentosa, offering residents a faster and less congested way to get around.
Why itโs needed:
๐ Rapid housing developments
๐ข Growing commercial and institutional activity
โฑ Daily bottlenecks at Mile 7 flyover & Mile 8 traffic lights, especially during peak hours
Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang shared that he has already requested the project and discussed it in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN). He is optimistic that the GPS government under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will approve and implement it, as itโs part of the 13th Malaysia Plan.
๐ The new road is estimated to be about 10 km long and could cost around RM50 million, as it may pass through some swampy areas.
Benefits:
โ
Reduces travel time for thousands of daily commuters
โ
Eases traffic along Jalan Penrissen
โ
Provides a shortcut for residents from Jalan Landeh to Kuching
โ
Supports the growing residential and commercial areas along Jalan Landeh
โThis proposal is timely and necessary. With all the new housing and commercial properties popping up along Jalan Landeh, this road will make daily commuting smoother and faster,โ Datuk Lo said.
While the exact timeline and implementation details are still being finalized, this new access road could transform traffic flow in the area and make life easier for everyone commuting in and out of Kuching.
๐ Stay tuned for updates on this exciting development!
