St Columba’s Church recently reached another milestone in its 103-year history with the launch of its very first Care Ministry Centre, dedicated to supporting senior citizens in the community.
The centre was officially opened by Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting, alongside The Rt Revd Solomon Cheong (former Assistant Bishop of the Anglican Church in Sarawak and Brunei) and The Revd Augustine Saidi.
Speaking at the launch, Datuk Ting highlighted the importance of meaningful interaction for seniors, especially those who spend long hours alone at home.
“A centre like this provides a place for seniors to meet friends, share stories, and enjoy companionship, especially when their children are busy with work. Sometimes, just having someone to listen can already be a form of therapy,” he said.
The Care Ministry Centre will offer a variety of activities including light exercises, games, singing, spiritual sessions, and social activities, promoting both physical and mental wellbeing.
To further support the initiative, Datuk Ting pledged RM10,000 for vertical vibration machines to help strengthen leg muscles and an additional RM8,000 to fund the centre’s activities.
👏 This meaningful initiative ensures that elderly members of our community stay connected, active, and emotionally supported—truly embodying the spirit of care and companionship.
