Sarawak is set to make history as the host of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) 22nd General Assembly and Scientific Symposium (GA2026), taking place from 17–24 October 2026 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
For the very first time, this prestigious global heritage event will be held in Southeast Asia, placing Sarawak and Malaysia at the centre of international discussions on heritage conservation, sustainable development, and resilient communities.
Held under the theme:
✨ *"Living Heritage: Respect. Enhance. Accept. Partnership."* ✨
The event has already attracted more than 1,100 delegates from around the world, bringing together experts, policymakers, researchers, and heritage advocates to exchange ideas and shape the future of cultural heritage.
Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah highlighted that heritage is not only about preserving the past—it is also about building the future. Heritage strengthens community identity, supports cultural tourism, creates opportunities for creative industries, and contributes to sustainable livelihoods.
As rapid modernisation continues to transform societies worldwide, GA2026 serves as an important reminder that our heritage must be protected and passed on to future generations.
📍 Sarawak is ready to welcome the world and showcase its rich cultural heritage on the global stage.
