We’re pleased to share that the RM27 million upgrade and runway extension project at Bario STOLport has reached 65% completion and is progressing as scheduled for an October 2026 handover.
Deputy Minister Datuk Gerawat Gala expressed his satisfaction with the progress during a recent site visit, noting that the project is both encouraging and on schedule.
What’s being upgraded?
🔹 Runway extension: 665m ➡️ 930m
🔹 Runway resurfacing
🔹 Additional aircraft parking bays
🔹 Upgraded perimeter fencing
🔹 Improved public parking facilities
While the upgrade won’t accommodate larger aircraft, it will double the capacity of Twin Otter services from 9 to 19 passengers—a game-changer for rural connectivity!
The delegation, led by Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, also visited Ba’ Kelalan STOLport to assess facility conditions alongside MOTS, PWD, and MAHB.
Crucially, flight operations have not been disrupted, as runway works are carried out only after the last flight departs (between 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm).
Once completed, this project will boost safety, comfort, and operational efficiency—while supporting tourism and the well-being of our rural communities. 💪🏽
