Batang Lupar 2 Bridge Expected to Open in August

Travelling between Sri Aman and Betong will soon become much quicker as the Batang Lupar 2 Bridge is expected to open to the public this August, following the successful completion of its final structural connection.

The milestone was marked today with the Final Stitching Ceremony, officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, celebrating the completion of the bridge's main structure.

Once operational, the bridge will become a key link along the Sarawak Second Trunk Road, significantly improving connectivity between the two divisions.

📍 Here's what it means:
✅ Travel distance between Sri Aman and Betong will be reduced from 73 km (via the Pan Borneo Highway) to just 37 km.
✅ Faster and more convenient journeys for commuters and travellers.
✅ Better support for trade, agriculture, tourism, and economic growth along the Sri Aman–Betong corridor.

The impressive cable-stayed bridge stretches 870 metres, featuring:
🌉 A 200-metre-wide navigation channel
📏 23-metre clearance height for river traffic
🏗️ Two iconic towers standing 145.5 metres tall

The project also includes 2.08 km of access roads, complete with drainage systems, road furniture, and essential safety features.

This landmark project reflects the Sarawak Government's continued commitment to enhancing transport infrastructure, improving regional connectivity, and driving long-term socio-economic development across the state.
