Sarawak is set to become home to Malaysia’s largest integrated pineapple processing factory, marking a major milestone for the state’s agricultural sector.
Located in Tukau, Miri, the RM70 million facility by Ning Planters Sdn Bhd is expected to be completed and begin operations by the end of this year.
The factory will not only process pineapples from the company’s own plantations but will also purchase fruit from smallholders across Miri, Limbang and Lawas through a contract farming system, creating new income opportunities for local farmers.
Currently, Ning Planters cultivates around 350 acres of pineapples, but the factory will require produce from up to 6,000 acres to operate at full capacity. This means more farmers will be invited to participate, receive guidance, and enjoy a more stable market for their harvests.
The Sarawak government is also aiming to expand pineapple cultivation to 20,000 hectares statewide, with plans for three processing hubs:
📍 Miri – Northern Zone
📍 Mukah – Central Zone (planned under the 13th Malaysia Plan)
📍 Kuching – Southern Zone
Once all three factories are operational, Sarawak will have a complete pineapple supply chain, making it easier for farmers to sell their produce while strengthening the state's agro-food industry.
Besides fresh pineapples, the factory will process pineapple juice and canned pineapple products, while pineapple suckers and biomass are also expected to create additional value for growers.
The 97,650 sq ft facility is projected to generate around 300 new jobs, further boosting economic opportunities in northern Sarawak.
🍍 From farm to factory, Sarawak’s pineapple industry is entering an exciting new chapter!
