🚆 Santubong ART project set to begin in stages!

The Santubong Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) project is moving forward, with preliminary works set to begin soon before major construction kicks off next year.

The first stage will focus on relocating trees along the project corridor, paving the way for the development of the ART route and the construction of a second Santubong Bridge, which will serve as a dedicated crossing for the ART over the Santubong River.

🌳 Out of 1,720 trees identified along the route, 536 are suitable for transplantation. These trees will be replanted at several locations, including the Aminuddin Baki Institute, the School of Arts, Darul Hana and Jalan FAC. The relocation process is expected to take between six and eight months.

The project will also see Sultan Tengah Road upgraded from a two-lane road into a dual carriageway, helping to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity.

🚉 The upgraded road will feature:
✅ A dedicated ART lane in the centre
🚗 Vehicle lanes on both sides
🏍️ Dedicated lanes for motorcycles and bicycles

The first phase of construction will cover the stretch from the Yayasan Sarawak Roundabout to the existing Santubong Bridge, before work begins on the new bridge announced by the Sarawak Premier.

According to Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, the ART corridor will be designed to suit the surrounding landscape, with some sections featuring double tracks while others will have a single track depending on space and terrain.

Once completed, the Santubong ART route is expected to improve connectivity between Kuching and Santubong while supporting the area's future growth.
