🎋 Kuching is getting its very own bamboo forest-inspired attraction!
Imagine strolling through a peaceful bamboo garden without leaving Kuching. 🌿Inspired by Japan’s famous Arashiyama Bamboo Forest in Kyoto, DBKU has officially soft-launched the new Bamboo Garden & Gallery, a project that aims to make bamboo one of Kuching’s signature green attractions.
The idea was sparked after a study visit to Kyoto in 2024, where bamboo is more than just scenery—it’s part of the city’s identity, culture and everyday life. Now, Kuching hopes to bring that same tranquil atmosphere to our own backyard.
🌱 Here's what to look forward to:
• A 25-acre green space dedicated to bamboo
• 10 bamboo species to be planted in the first phase
• A collaboration with STIDC to promote bamboo as part of Kuching’s urban landscape
• Plans to strengthen ties with Kyoto through a Friendly Cities partnership and share ideas on urban greening and river conservation
And that's not all! ✨
DBKU also announced that the Kuching Light & Floral Festival will return later this year at the Botanical Garden—this time on a much grander scale! Expect dazzling light installations across one-third of the garden, along with a brand-new floral showcase.
Looks like Kuching is becoming greener, more vibrant, and even more beautiful for everyone to enjoy. 🌿💚
