How Did Malaysia Come to Be? Find At Plaza Merdeka ! 👀🇲🇾

If you’re curious about how Malaysia came to be, there’s a pretty interesting exhibition happening in Kuching that’s worth checking out. 👀

The Malaysia Day 2026 Exhibition takes visitors through the story of Malaysia’s formation with 5 main sections — Timeline, Documents, Committees & Commissions, Important Figures, and Malaysian Identity.

You’ll get to discover important moments between May 27, 1961 and August 9, 1965, take a closer look at historical documents, and learn more about the people and groups involved in the formation of Malaysia.

And there’s more than just reading and looking at displays! 😆

Visitors can join Malaysia-themed quizzes and Kahoot sessions, catch PENTARAMA performances, and even watch document conservation demonstrations by the National Archives.

One of the highlights is the Proclamation of Malaysia, the document that officially declared the formation of Malaysia on September 16, 1963. 📜🇲🇾

The exhibition also takes a closer look at things that are part of our Malaysian identity, including the story behind the Jalur Gemilang, Rukun Negara, and this year’s Malaysia Day celebration logo and theme.

And if you’re not in Kuching, no worries! 👋
Mini-exhibitions are also being held across 10 divisions in Sarawak, as well as selected locations in Sabah and Putrajaya.

Earlier today, Datuk Abdullah Saidol was among the first visitors to explore the exhibition. He described it as a “tunnel of history” and reminded Malaysians to remember our shared history, put aside our differences and continue building unity as anak Malaysia. ❤️

With Malaysia Day just around the corner, this could be a nice way to spend some time learning about the stories behind the country we call home. 🇲🇾✨

History may be from the past, but the story of Malaysia belongs to all of us.
