Kayu Belian, or Bornean Ironwood, this remarkable timber is one of the strongest and most durable in the world. Native to the deep rainforests of Borneo, it holds deep cultural significance for indigenous communities such as the Dayak Bidayuh.
Traditionally, belian wood has been used to build:
▪︎ Tiang rumah (main pillars of longhouses)
▪︎ Sirap atap (wooden roof shingles)
▪︎ Perahu (boats)
▪︎ And even sacred structures
Why belian? Because it endures. It’s incredibly resistant to termites, water, and weather — some longhouses still standing today are supported by belian pillars that are over a century old!
This post represents more than just wood. It’s a symbol of strength, resilience, and heritage.
