Kuching is moving one step closer to a more modern and sustainable public transport system! 🇲🇾✨
Sarawak’s hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system is set to begin its pilot phase in 2026, ahead of the full rollout starting in 2027.
📍 Pilot Route: Samarahan to Stutong
The initial route will run from Rembus Depot in Samarahan to Northbank in Stutong, supported by hydrogen-powered feeder buses and a hydrogen production plant at Rembus Depot.
💰 RM988 Million Allocated for KUTS
Under the Alternative Funding initiative, RM988 million has been allocated for 2027 to support the continued development of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS).
Another RM124 million will be provided to Sarawak Metro to support operations, including the pilot phase, and ensure the system is ready for commercial service.
🌱 Sarawak to Strengthen Its Hydrogen Industry
Beyond public transport, Sarawak will also study the development of a more comprehensive legal and regulatory framework for its hydrogen industry, covering production, distribution, usage, safety standards and commercial exports.
The initiative aims to boost investor confidence, support industry growth and accelerate Sarawak’s transition towards a greener, hydrogen-powered economy.
🚀 With the ART system on the way, could this be a major step towards transforming how people travel around Kuching?
What do you think? Are you looking forward to trying the ART when it starts operating? 👇
