Good news for Sarawakians! 🎉 Petra Jaya Hospital has reached 91.02% completion as of September 25, with contractors now finalising interior works ahead of medical equipment installation. The hospital is targeted for completion by December 14, 2026.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian shared the latest progress during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly sitting.
Here are more healthcare developments across Sarawak:
🏥 New Hospitals & Clinics
Lawas Hospital began operations on September 7.
Tabuan Jaya Health Clinic has been operating since July 19.
Lawas Health Clinic is expected to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Two new clinics in Nanga Atoi, Saratok, and Nanga Ngungun, Kanowit, have been approved under the Rintis Project, with a combined estimated cost of RM12.8 million.
🛠️ Upgrading Healthcare Facilities
The Federal Government has allocated RM50 million to upgrade six dilapidated healthcare facilities in Sarawak.
For 2026, another RM9.35 million has been allocated to upgrade, renovate and repair 29 health clinics and one district health office across the state. A further RM2.4 million will go towards repairs and upgrades at staff quarters and barracks in several areas.
💻 Healthcare Going Digital
So far, 175 clinics, or 64.8% of Sarawak's primary healthcare facilities, have been digitalised. Of these, 154 clinics are using a cloud-based clinic management system.
The Sarawak Government has also invested RM10 million in ICT equipment and digital infrastructure upgrades, benefiting 142 clinics, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
Sarawak is now hoping to secure a fair share of the RM1 billion digitalisation allocation under the Federal Budget 2027 to further strengthen its healthcare digitalisation efforts.
With new hospitals, upgraded clinics and better digital infrastructure in the pipeline, these developments aim to improve healthcare services and accessibility for communities across Sarawak. 💙
