🚧 Sarawak’s First Road Tunnel Taking Shape at Bukit Pagon, Lawas! ⛰️
Sarawak’s first-ever road tunnel is making progress at Bukit Pagon, Lawas, with the latest photos showing construction work underway at the tunnel entrance.

The 2.24km tunnel is part of the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road Phase 2 (SSLR2) project, specifically Package 4B, which involves building through challenging mountainous terrain.

🛠️ Built Through the Mountains

The tunnel is being constructed using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM), an engineering technique that involves excavating through rock while providing structural support along the way.

According to Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) director Datuk Dr Cassidy Morris, modern technology and engineering expertise are helping overcome the challenges of building roads through mountainous areas.

📍 From 22km to Just 7km!

Once completed, the tunnel is expected to shorten the existing 22km mountainous route to approximately 7km, providing a more direct connection and improving travel efficiency between Sarawak and Sabah.

What was once a natural barrier could soon become a new pathway connecting the two states! 🚗🌉
