Kuching North is taking another step towards becoming a smarter city! 🌆
Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) has achieved Smart City Level 1 under the rating criteria set by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), and is now working towards Level 2.
The achievement reflects DBKU’s ongoing efforts to use technology and innovation to improve urban management and make everyday services more convenient for the public.
📱 What smart city initiatives are already in place?
Among the initiatives introduced by DBKU are:
💡 Smart street lighting
🚦 Smart traffic lights
🗺️ Geographic Information System (GIS)
📹 CCTV monitoring systems
📲 i-DBKU digital services
DBKU is also working with the Malaysian Space Agency to explore how satellite data and space technology can support city planning, environmental monitoring, land-use management and disaster preparedness. 🛰️
But building a smart city is about more than just modern technology and infrastructure. It also means improving residents’ quality of life, protecting the environment, preserving Kuching’s heritage and ensuring that development benefits the whole community.
As Kuching continues to grow and modernise, the challenge is to move forward while keeping the city’s unique history and cultural identity alive. ❤️
What would you like to see improved in Kuching as it moves towards becoming a smarter city? Better traffic management, more efficient public transport, or more digital services? 👇
